Turner Sports: NBA 1987-Chicago Bulls @ Washington Wizards: Michael Jordan Highlights

Source:Real Life Journal

Don’t worry Wizards fans, the Bullets as they were called back then and I wish they were still called now, or at least something that actually has something to do with Washington, instead of Los Angeles, which is what the Wizards sounds like, but the Bullets won this game. Michael Jordan having a big night for, Da Bulls! But no other Bull doing much damage to the Bullets, who as a team scored 119 points against, Da Bulls! During this game, after already wrapping up another playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. In reality, MJ wasn’t by himself before Scottie Pippen, as far as having other players who could score. This Bulls team also had Orlando Woolridge, Gene Banks and Charles Oakley. But for the Bulls to beat really good teams and even deep teams, that the Bullets were back then, MJ had to do a lot of the work on his own.

NBC Sports: MLB 1987-All Star Game-National League @ American League: Full Game

.Source:The New Democrat

What I remember about this game is not much. I remember the Oakland Coliseum when it was beautiful and essentially a classic ballpark, with the Raiders moving to Los Angeles. I remember the rebirth of the Oakland Athletics to a certain extent, with them hiring manager Tony La Russa and Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire and Carny Lansford already being on the club before Canseco and McGwire. The Athletics starting to become very good again and were even in the AL West race, especially with Minnesota Twins winning the division with a 85-77 record. And this is not because this game was boring or anything, with the highlights I’ve seen of it on TV and online, it was a very good game. But I was only eleven years old at this point in 1987.

This was a great game with a lot of great players. The AL with Cal Ripken, Dave Winfield, Don Mattingly, Wade Boggs, Rickey Henderson and many others. The NL with Ryan Sandberg, Andrew Dawson, Mike Schmidt, Ozzie Smith and many others. You saw players from teams that were finally very good again and now contenders. Like the Bash Brothers from the Athletics, Will Clark from the San Francisco Giants. And great players that were from teams that were already very good, that on paper should’ve been Hall of Famers. Like Darryl Strawberry with the New York Mets, the Bash Brothers again, George Bell with the Toronto Blue Jays, Dwight Evans, who I believe at least is a borderline Hall of Famer. So there is a lot great things to remember about the 1987 MLB All Star Game.

The Daily Beast: Peter Beinart: Brown University’s Campus Leftists vs. Free Speech

FreeState MD

The Daily Beast: Opinion: Peter Beinart: Brown University’s Campus Leftists vs. Free Speech

I hate the term ‘campus Liberals’ to refer to people are supposed to be Liberals even though they aren’t and sound more like Fidel Castro or Hugo Chavez supporting and admiring Neo-Communists, that they do Liberals. I’ll get to what I mean by that later, because you simply can’t be a Liberal if you do not believe in free speech period. It would like someone whose a Conservative who doesn’t believe in private enterprise or capitalism. Or a Libertarian whose against the right to privacy and in favor of the War on Drugs. There’s a big reason the first amendment is the first amendment because it is the most important amendment we have and the most important freedom that we as people have.

Take free speech away and you might as well take away democracy and the freedom to assemble and the right to privacy. Because one doesn’t work without the other with people being able to organize and speak their minds even if it offends people on the fascist Left or fascist Right. People who believe they are God (even if they are Atheists) and have all the answers and are right about everything to the point they believe they shouldn’t have any opposition. So if you believe in censorship as a policy and that free speech only applies to people who you agree with, then you are not a Liberal. Just like someone whose against c capitalism and wants the economy to be nationalized is not a Conservative. Or someone whose against the right to privacy and against freedom of choice is not a Libertarian.

The reason the United States Constitution is one of if not the most liberal constitution’s in the world is because of all the freedom it guarantees us over our own lives. Which pisses the hell out of statists on the Left and Right who believe people tend to be stupid. And we need their version of big government to manage our lives for us. It doesn’t guarantee happiness, success or wealth, but provides us with the freedom to gain these things for ourselves in most cases. Our education system fails us in many ways to see that all Americans have the freedom to live in freedom. But under our Constitution we all have the constitutional rights to obtain freedom in America. Including the right to speak and express ourselves and write and organize and assemble.

And we are guaranteed all a certain level of privacy as well and is starts with the First Amendment. And if you do not believe in it, you are not a Liberal, but perhaps a statist. Or fascist, or some type of collectivist that wants everyone to be the same with no individuality. Perhaps you have your foot so far up your ass that you think you’re God with all the answers about what people need to be happy and healthy in life. And that since you are God, you’re not entitled to opposition and the freedom and individuality is not needed in your utopia.

People with egos the size of planets, who lack a solid basis in reality and see themselves as imperfect, have no business trying to govern a free society. And without for people to be themselves, because you want a world where we all think the same and believe in the same things where dissent is not tolerated. So when I hear the term ‘campus Liberal’ and I hear about these so-called Liberals who believe in censoring people they disagree with because it may offend certain groups they believe need their protection, I believe the real meaning of Liberal has disappeared and has been replaced by something else.

I’m not sure if I should laugh or get angry as a Liberal when I hear so-called Liberals take such anti-liberal statist, collectivist and now fascist positions on things. Now not just having to do with the economy, but now our personal affairs and how we can express ourselves. Because these people aren’t Liberals, but instead represent the false negative stereotypes of liberalism. And real sorry class of people who live such sorry lives and don’t have enough to keep themselves busy and make themselves happy. That minding their own business is simply not good enough, that they feel the need to mind other people’s business as well. Especially in an era where Americans are finally seeing what liberalism really is. And not how it has been stereotyped and bashed for forty years.

Mometrix Academy: What is Social Liberalism

Social Liberals

Social Liberals

Source:FRS FreeState

In this post, I’m just going to get into what social liberalism is and what it isn’t. What it really is and what it really isn’t and I’m writing this especially this weekend when I hear people who are called ‘college Liberals’ who want to control speech they disagree with on campus. And have it eliminated, or outlawed as if these people are Liberals, or even Social Liberals. Because they want to eliminate speech that may offend people they want to protect. When the fact is for anyone who understands liberalism social, or otherwise knows that one of the key elements of liberalism is free speech and the right to free assembly.

Just look at the First Amendment which is one of the most liberal things ever written. Paraphrase- Congress shall make no law that fringes on free speech in America. So when talking about liberalism social, or otherwise, or studying it, make sure you are actually talking about liberalism and not fascism. Like these politically correct speech codes by the Far-Left in America that want to eliminate speech in America that they find offensive. Because these people aren’t Liberals, but Fascists, or leftist statists. Which is a bit different.

So free speech is a big part of social liberalism, but it is certainly not the only part. And when Americans tend to think of social liberalism, they tend to think of people are pro-choice on abortion and other women’s healthcare issues. And that even the state meaning government in general should have to fund these things for women who can’t afford them in general. As well as being pro-women’s rights in general and pro-gay rights and pro-minority rights. And that none of these groups should be discriminated against at all. When the fact is these things aren’t true. Liberals, are pro-individual rights which is different.

That we are all created equal with certain basic fundamental rights that can’t be taken away from us unless we hurt other people’s freedom. And being pro-individual rights covers everything from abortion to homosexuality. But also things like marijuana. But also gambling and pornography. And again free speech which even covers an individual’s right to quite frankly be an asshole and say and do offensive things. And that everyone is treated equally under law. And are not denied things based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, nationality or sexuality.

A good way to think of social liberalism, or a Social Liberal is someone whose pro-choice. Literally pro-choice across the board regardless of the issue. As long as people aren’t hurting innocent people with the choices that they are making. That people should have the right to make their own bed in life and make their own way. But then are also responsible for sleeping in their own beds. In other words, individual freedom and responsibility. And not being able to force others to pay for one’s bad choices in life.

As for what the women in this video had to say about social liberalism, who will go nameless simply, because she didn’t give out her name and I don’t personally know her, or know of her. She nailed the definition of liberalism in the broader context. And perfectly laid out how liberalism, or how she called it social liberalism is different from libertarianism, or what is called classical liberalism. Or even democratic socialism, even though she didn’t mention that. That liberalism, is about individual liberty and individual rights. But that those rights are for everybody and that where government in is not to manage our lives for us. But to help people in need be able to get by in the short-term and help them be able to live in freedom as well. And not need to be taken care of.

Classic MLB: MLB 1986- 9-26- Texas Rangers @ Anaheim Angels: Full Game

1986 09 26 Rangers at Angels California Clinches AL West

Source:Classic MLB– Angels pitcher John Candelaria.

“1986 09 26 Rangers at Angels California Clinches AL West”

From Classic MLB

The 1986 Angels were a very good, if not great all around team. Hitting, pitching and defense that should’ve at least gotten to the World Series. But of course lost three straight games in the ALCS after having a 3-1 lead in that series.

The Angels, who contended both in 84 and 85 in the AL West, which was back before the wildcard came into both leagues. Looked like the team to beat in the AL West both seasons.

1986, they weren’t expected to win the AL West, especially the way that they did by being in first place most of the season. But in 86, they put it together for the whole season. Both with their offense and pitching. And managed to avoid fading in August and September like they did in 84 and 85. The 1986 Rangers, were somewhat in transition. Especially with their pitching and started becoming contenders again.

This Week in Baseball: 7-25-1978

Source:The Daily Post

There were a lot of interesting stories about the 1978 MLB season. The World Series was a great one with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees. The two league championship series were good as well. With the Dodgers having to beat the Philadelphia Phillies and the Yankees having to beat the Kansas City Royals just to get to the MLB World Series. There were new divisional contenders, like the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. The Milwaukee Brewers in the AL East. The Anaheim Angels in the AL West. There was Pete Rose’s 44 game hitting streak. The long streak of games with at least one hit since Joe DiMaggio in 1941. And of course the never-ending Yankees soap opera involving George Steinbrenner and whoever he saw as a rival to his absolute power in New York. In the late 1970s and 1980s that of course was manager Billy Martin. There was a lot going on in 1978 making TWIB a very interesting show. Especially with Mell Allen as the host.

Fishy Paw: Airplane (1980) Julie Hagerty: ‘Everything is Fine Up Here: Oh by the Way, Can Anyone Fly a Plane?’

Fishy Paw_ Airplane (1980) Julie Hagerty_ ‘Everything is Fine Up Here_ Oh by the Way, Can Anyone Fly a Plane_’

“Is there anyone onboard who knows how to fly a plane?”

From Fishy Paw

Everything is fine up here in the cockpit. Oh by the way can anyone fly this plane so we do not crash? That’s right, the only problem that we have in the cockpit of this commercial passenger plane, is that we don’t have anyone who can fly the plane.

Which is no worst than doctors who are about to perform brain surgery on someone so they can save that person’s life, but do not have anyone who knows how to perform brain surgery. Or an English teacher who doesn’t speak any English.

Other than these issues, there’s nothing to be worried about. No reason to panic, I mean seriously what is the worst thing that could possibly happen with one being able to fly a plane that is already in the air, the plane crashing? I mean come on! The plane is already insured, so the money there will to replace the plane. And most of the passengers are wealthy anyway, so they probably have life insurance.

I mean seriously, these passengers didn’t have to get on this plane to begin with.

MLB: MLB 1979-TWIB-8/07-79

MLB 1979 - Gary Carter

Source:MLB– Montreal Expos catcher Gary Carter, on The Week in Baseball, in 1979.

Source:The Daily Post

1979, is still one of the best seasons in Major League Baseball and another example of why MLB should’ve went with the wildcard playoff format much earlier than they did, which was 1995.

You had three teams that won 90 or more games in the AL East alone: the Orioles, Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers. The Yankees, won 89 games, but had a better record than the Anaheim Angels, that won the AL West. But because of no wildcard and that only division winners qualified for the playoffs, the Yankees didn’t qualify. The Orioles, were the only team in the AL East that made the playoffs in 79. Even though four AL East teams won 89 or more games.

In the AL West, the Angels won the division with 88 games. Their first division championship ever. And two clubs in the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers that battled them for that division.

The NL East, you have a very good divisional race as well. With Pirates winning that division, who won several division championships in the 1970s and won two MLB World Series as well. The Montreal Expos, who up until the late 70s, were consistent losers, made a strong run at the NL East, but finished three games back of the Pirates. The Expos, were actually very good in the late 1970s and early 80s and even the early and mid 1990s. But only made the NL Playoffs once in this whole period, because they only won one division championship.

The NL West, only two teams with winning records, but two good teams. In the Reds and Houston Astros. The Reds winning that division with 91 wins, with the Astros finishing a couple of games back.

In 1979, you had three great division races. The AL West, NL East and NL West. And even though the Orioles won the AL East by seven games, they also won 102 games that year. And we’re in a division with two other clubs that were good enough to be very good playoff teams, that won 90 or more games as well.

And the Yankees, again if they were in the AL West, would’ve won that division. MLB, was behind the times back then and should’ve expanded their playoff format much sooner than they did.

NBC Sports: MLB 1984- St. Louis Cardinals @ Chicago Cubs: Game of The Week

MLB 1984 06 23 84 Cardinals at Cubs (2021) - Google Search

“MLB 1984 06 23 84 Cardinals at Cubs”

From Larry’s Classic Sports Videos

The baseball game that seemed like it would never end. A classic game in this great Cardinals-Cubs rivalry, great rivalry even though the Cardinals are traditional winners and champions. And the Cubs generally are not only losers, but tend to finish way out of contention.

This was a great game, if you hate pitching and perhaps see pitching as an inconvenience to slugfests and perhaps as a necessary evil that is necessary so that baseball games actually come to conclusion at some point.

This game was essentially a home run derby where the team that could find away to get more outs and scored last was going to win. But not a great game in the sense that it was a great all around played game with good pitching, defense, and with timely hitting, that went down to last outs and into the ninth inning not knowing who was going to win at the end.

Thom Hartmann: Dennis Prager: ‘Leftism is a Different Approach to Americanism’

IMG_5674

Source:Thom Hartmann– I don’t like leftists either, but they’re not animals. Which might be the nicest thing that I have to say about them.

Source:The Free State MD

Thom Hartmann debates the difference between those on the left and those on the right with Dennis Prager, Conservative Commentator & syndicated talk show host/ Author, “Still the Best Hope: Why the World Needs American Values to Triumph”. Dennis Prager

From Thom Hartmann

If Thom Hartmann would actually let Dennis Prager speak here, this might have been a real conversation.

Hartmann should’ve known going in when he agreed to interview right-wing columnist and talk show host Dennis Prager, that Prager was going to make a lot of points and take positions that Hartmann not only likes and disagrees with, not only hates, but would think that Prager is some type of bigot for saying and believing those things, but if he was looking for a discussion and debate here, he would’ve let Prager make his points and then respond to them.

But instead Hartmann took the approach that he was some left-wing Pacific Coast or Ivy League professor and that Prager was just some student or something that Hartmann would straighten out.

I don’t agree with Dennis Prager on much: I basically see him ideologically as some type of religious fascist and cultural Nationalist, that if you don’t take his view of the world, that he sees you as immoral or Un-American or something. But he’s always been right about the Far-Left (or New-Left) in America. He’s always been right about Socialists and Communists who view Americanism, individualism, and individual freedom and immoral and selfish. Which is the point of view and philosophy that Thom Hartmann has always represented, at least since I started following him 4-5 years ago. As you see in this so-called discussion here, that Hartmann tried to turn into him lecturing Prager.
