“In part 2 of our two part clip of the Doors 1967 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek provides wonderful commentary on his and bandmates fateful visit to the Ed Sullilvan Show on Sunday night, September 17, 1967.

The Doors of course went on to great fame over the coming years. Truly one of the recording industries most influencial bands, the foursome of Jim Morrison (lead vocalist), Ray Manzarek (keyboardist), Robby Krieger (guitarist) and John Densmore (drums) made the Doors remarkable in their groundbreaking approach to rock and roll music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. From Light My Fire, to Riders On the Storm, the Doors were unique and one of the very best.

“Jim Morrison’s leather pants get much higher”

From Bod Mas

Don’t get me wrong here, because I believe Jim Morrison and The Doors gave an excellent performance here and I completely agree with The Lizard King (or Leather King) about leaving the lyric higher in the song on free speech grounds. But one of the reasons why this performance is so memorable, is because you have the lead vocalist with a big boner sticking out of his skin-tight, black pants. Apparently Jim Morrison got excited right before he went out on stage or perhaps saw a beautiful, sexy woman while he was on stage during the performance. But that is what can happen when you are a man who perhaps is not completely sober when you go out in public and you wear skin-tight, black leather jeans almost everywhere you go in public.

Jim Morrison

Source:Ed Sullivan Show– The Lizard King Jim Morrison, on Ed Sullivan in 1967. You can call him The Leather King after this performance.

Good reason not to wear skin-tight leather jeans on national TV when you aren’t sober. As Jim Morrison did on a regular basis for visual effect and he wanted especially women checking him out.

But the risk is you end up showing more of yourself than you perhaps intended. Especially when you get excited and you are right there for the whole world to see.

Unless no one actually saw The Lizard King go out on stage right before he went out and especially saw him up front and perhaps noticed something about his pants that his, well his thing (lets say) was sticking out and he had a boner sticking out of his leather jeans, or Morrison got excited as he was already on stage and perhaps saw a sexy woman or something, for the life of me I can’t figure why someone didn’t walk up to Morrison and say: “Uh Jim, you should go to the bathroom or back to the dressing room before you go out on national TV. Because you have a boner sticking out of your pants that everyone is going to see on national TV.”

USFL Forever: USFL 1983-Week 6-Oakland Invaders @ Boston Breakers: Full Game

.
Source:The New Democrat

A crowd of less than eight-thousand at a major league pro football game. I guess the USFL was slow to catch on Boston which is too bad. Because the USFL had very good teams in it and a lot of NFL caliber players. Of course the weather looked horrible for this game. Which isn’t uncommon in Boston in early spring. But the Breakers were one of the USFL franchises that relocated and ended up in Portland in 1984 or 85. Boston was one of the mistakes if the USFL. Their idea that the USFL could take on the NFL in their own markets was one of their fatal errors. Oakland was one of their good moves, because Oakland is crazy for major league pro football. And the Raiders had just moved to Los Angeles in 1982. So the USFL going to Oakland was perfect timing on their part.

arait boots, corral boots, lucchese boots we can fit your style and size in any cowboy boot or ladies cowgirl boot.”

From JC Western Wear

I love dem cowgirls and this is one of the reasons. Which is their style and how they present themselves and how they carry themselves. They do the work and activities that cowboys have traditionally have done.

But in the last fifty-years or so cowgirls have become probably as common as cowboys. And you see cowgirls doing the same jobs and activities as cowboys. Managing ranches, horses and cows, wrangling them up, you see cowgirls competing in rodeos and other western shows and not just as models, but as contestants competing in the same activities as cowboys.

The western rancher profession s for both men and women, because it is not a job defined by gender as far as whether someone can do it successfully or not. It is defined by technique, skill, knowledge, execution and yes physical strength as well. But you don’t become a cowgirl if you are not physically up to the job in the first place.

The Big Picture: Louis Michael Seidman: Should We Give Up on The Constitution?

.
Source:The New Democrat

Just from the outset, this is a pipe dream of the Far-Left who want to make the Federal Government a hell of a lot bigger so they can transform the country into a socialist collectivist society. Where they can decide what is good for us. Or what a majority can decide what is good for us like in a real majoritarian social democracy. Where big issues tend to be decided based on referendum. This will never happen because as a country we have never had so much faith in our government especially at the federal level. Where we would be willing to give them the keys to the national car. And say, “we now leave everything up to you without anything to stop you.”

I have some questions that are really targeting to let’s say 85-90 percent of the country who thinks this is a crazy idea.

1. Do we really want a country where free speech and assembly are not guaranteed?

2. Do we really want a country where we no longer have a constitutional right to defend ourselves?

3. Do we really want a country where our privacy and property rights aren’t guaranteed? Where government essentially owns everything and could come into our homes at will?

4. Do we really want a country without an Equal Protection Clause? Where we could be discriminated against based on race or ethnicity just to use as a couple of examples?

These are just some of the things that our United States Constitution guarantees us under law. The problem with our country is not our Constitution, but big government politicians on the Far-left and Far-Right who do not agree with it. So they do not enforce it. Which would be legal for them if you throw out the Constitution. And they would be able to write laws as they see fit. Without a Constitution to at least slow them down when they go too far, or just plain stop them.

Thom Hartmann: ‘Caller- ‘Could Restitution For Slavery Work?’

0a9ef685e5dec2cc8a75d4f4d41241e6

Source:Thom Hartmann– talking about restitution for African-Americans.

Source:The New Democrat

“If you liked this clip of The Thom Hartmann Program, please do us a big favor and share it with your friends… and hit that “like” button!”

From Thom Hartmann

I think Thom Hartmann actually nailed it on the head here and I don’t have much that I can use to improve on what he said. I would just add that once you go down the road for taxpayer funded restitution for every non-Anglo-Saxon (meaning English-American) racial and ethnic group in America, you’ll be driving on that road for the rest of your life. Because every non-Anglo-Saxon racial and ethnic group in America, can claim racial or ethnic discrimination in this country.

One big problem with restitution for slavery and that will be the one problem I’ll focus in this post, because it is a big enough problem by itself to make it a bad idea, is that it would open up new holes and other avenues for other communities to jump in. And say, “hey what about us, we’ve been discriminated against by the United States Government because of our race or ethnicity as well. Where’s our compensation?”

I’m not trying to put this lightly, but has the African-American community been through the worst or racial or ethnic bigotry in America? Maybe, but the American-Indian community who has it worst and has had it worst since the African slaves were officially freed hundred and fifty years ago. Could say, “the Europeans stole all of our land and we want to back.” They would be right to with that and they could say, “this is our country and we are going to decide who get’s to stay and who has to go.”

Japanese, Italian and German-Americans could say, what about us? How about World War II and being forced to live in those detainment camps simply because of our ethnic heritage and the Roosevelt Administration holding us against our will because they thought we were on the side of Japan, Italy and Germany during World War II.” Their motherlands even though a lot of these people had been loyal Americans for over hundred years at that point when they started immigrating to America from Japan, Italy and Germany.

Is racism still a problem in this country and do we still have racists? Sure. And by the way not all racists in America can track their roots back to Europe. No race of people has a monopoly on racism or tolerance. But the bigger problem and an issue that can be addressed by government that we could all fix together is empowering people regardless of race and ethnicity to be able to live in freedom. Making liberal democracy work for all Americans and that get’s to things like infrastructure. Having a real national infrastructure system that builds up the communities that have been left behind. And a quality education and job training system for everyone so we all can have the skills needed to live in freedom.

CBS Sports: NFL 1991-Super Bowl XXVI: Buffalo Bills vs. Washington Redskins: Full Game

▶ NFL 1991-Super Bowl XXVI: Buffalo Bills vs. Washington Redskins: Full Game – YouTube.

Source:The New Democrat

What looked like a pretty good matchup on paper turned into a blowout by the second quarter. As the Redskins simply dominated the Bills on both sides of the ball on the line of scrimmage. The Bills never getting a running game going and as a result not being able to protect. QB Jim Kelly who was hit and knocked down throughout the game. And the Bills not being able to stop the Redskins running game. Giving QB Mark Rypien plenty of time to hit those big deep passes down the field with Bills defense. Having to worry so much about the Redskins running game.

Arpa Keun: McCarthyism in America

.
Source:The New Democrat

McCarthyism in America deserves at least one long blog and probably several of them. But to give you a summary of McCarthyism. It was about one U.S. Senator from Wisconsin Joe McCarthy who was anti-communist to the point that he didn’t believe democracy or liberal democracy could survive in the United States with any link to it. Especially inside the United States Government that he had to do everything in his power that he had as a member of Congress to absolutely destroy it.

Senator Joe McCarthy saw his anti-communism as the ticket to bigger and greater things as far as his political career. And perhaps something that would get him to the White House post the Eisenhower Administration. And he took it as far as he could to get everything out of it that he could politically. To the point that he not only destroyed his own political career, but destroyed the professional lives of a lot of good innocent Americans.

The Young Turks: ‘Is President Obama Right About Marijuana?’

.
Source:The New Democrat

Keep in mind this is coming from one of the safest politicians at least in modern American political history. Who is well-known for looking at all sides and considering all opinions before making a final decision. Whose run his last race for political office and now has the freedom to basically say what he wants with few diplomatic exceptions. And what he’s done here I believe is not just look at the facts when it comes to marijuana, but acknowledging them as well. For a change I agree with a lot of what Cenk Uygur said here. But what I would add is that President Obama is a politician before a leader. He’s a leader, just a safe one who generally doesn’t want to be the first person to go out on a limb and take a big stand on a big issue. But he has led on big issues before. The Great Recession when he first took office, health care reform, Wall Street reform, all uses where he’s paid a big price for. But that have worked out and were the right things to do at the time.

The Daily Conversation: Long Lost Martin Luther King Speech

.
Source:The New Democrat

The thing that I may respect most about Dr. King was his ability to make his case to the country simply based on the facts. With a very sober demeanor that was designed to bring people to his cause based on the facts. That what he was talking about in accomplishing were equal rights under the law. That the United States Constitution guarantees everyone and that all Americans were supposed to be treated equally. And that we were entitled to these rights based under the United States Constitution.

Dr. King wasn’t calling for special rights or treatment for African-Americans. Just the same rights that Caucasian-Americans had and that no one was supposed to be discriminated against based on race. And treated better or worst because of their race. That we are all supposed to be treated equally under the law. And that it wasn’t some law that needed to be passed to guarantee our rights, because these rights were already guaranteed to all Americans again under the United States Constitution.

Dr. King also understood that for him to achieve the goals of his movement, which was racial equality under law, that he was going to need help. That African-Americans couldn’t make this happen on their own. That they needed other Americans including Caucasians as well. Simply because his community was outnumbered and need others to make their goals reality.

Thom Hartmann: ‘Dr. King’s Economic Bill of Rights’

.
Source:The New Democrat

President Franklin Roosevelt had an Economic Bill of Rights that he released to the public after the New Deal. He tried to pass it in I believe 1944 and it had similar goals to what Thom Hartmann was talking about in Dr. King’s Social and Economic Bill of Rights. Right to a job, right to a good income, right to not want. I guess meaning not to be selfish. Right to health care and probably health insurance as well. And a right to education. President Roosevelt didn’t get his bill passed, but this was to be the next phase of his administration. But he died before he could get it passed through Congress.

And Thom Hartmann in what he was saying about Dr. King was basically the same goals. Past racial equality under law the next goal of the United Sates was to achieved economic equality as well. That regardless of race that all Americans should be have a good life in America and not to have to live in poverty at all. That these things are so important and critical to American democracy that the Federal Government should guarantee these things when American capitalism fails to achieve them.

This wouldn’t be my approach as a Liberal. I’m all for equal treatment under law regardless of race. And other classes as well and I’m also for the right to a good education. That we all deserve as Americans the right to be able to go to good schools and have good teachers. And those are really government’s main two roles when it comes to the economy. To see that everyone has a good opportunity to be able to do as well as they can and what they do with those opportunities is up to them. And have to live with the consequences of their decisions for good and bad.
