Chris Cillizza: Here’s The Dirty Little Secret About Karine Jean-Pierre Everyone in DC Knows

“In this video, Chris Cillizza dissects the surprising announcement from former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that she is now an independent and is releasing a book titled Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House Outside of Party Lines. Cillizza argues the move reeks of opportunism, noting Jean-Pierre was known for being a loyal Biden defender—even after the disastrous 2024 debate—and was not highly regarded within the White House. He criticizes the timing of her political rebrand as a convenient marketing ploy, reinforced by a scathing Politico article quoting former colleagues who describe her as ineffective and self-promotional. Cillizza concludes that her new stance confirms what many already thought: this was always about building her personal brand.”

From Chris Cillizza

I agree with Chris Cillizza about POLITICO’s headline here:

“Karine Jean-Pierre’s announcement that she’s leaving the Democratic Party — timed with the rollout of a new book — has detonated long-simmering grievances among her former White House colleagues about Jean-Pierre’s pursuit of celebrity and personal media exposure while serving as then-President Joe Biden’s press secretary.

The attention-grabbing ploy lit up Democratic and Biden alumni texting groups and reignited frustrations that burned for years about Jean-Pierre, according to seven former Biden administration officials granted anonymity to describe private conversations.

One former official recalled that Jean-Pierre had joked about becoming an independent even while on the job in the Biden White House, an off-key comment for someone ostensibly serving as a major messenger for the Democratic Party. Another former official said that Jean-Pierre had begun working during the Biden administration with a New York-based publicist and had copied that person on official emails before some of Jean-Pierre’s White House colleagues intervened.

“Everyone thinks this is a grift,” the first former official said of Jean-Pierre’s book project.

As Biden’s press secretary, Jean-Pierre’s halting, ineffectual briefings exasperated reporters and routinely offered material for the Republican Party’s main account on X. She frustrated colleagues throughout the West Wing for focusing on raising her own profile while leaving the hands-on management of media relations and the White House press shop to other aides.

While it’s unclear how she will portray Biden or her time in the White House in the book, titled “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” several former colleagues expressed confusion at how Jean-Pierre seemingly intends to paint Biden as a victim while pinning her own decision to leave the party on his “broken” White House…

Jean-Pierre’s former staffers offered withering criticism of what they see as an opportunistic grift.

“She made a joke about being an independent last year and now it’s a book. All ideas are monetary — even the dumb ones,” said one of the former staffers…

From POLITICO

From the Daily Mail:

“Jean-Pierre, 50, has frequently been seen shouting down journalists and descending into hostile back-and-forths since she assumed the high-profile role in May 2022.

Just weeks before election day, Jean-Pierre had perhaps her most fiery moment at the lectern, as she stormed out of the press room accusing reporters of spreading misinformation about FEMA’s response to Hurricane Helene…

From the Daily Mail

As Fred Schneider wrote yesterday:

“And as far as Karine-Jean Pierre: before the Biden White House, she was part of the left-wing group MoveOn. She’s not a Democrat in ideology anyway. More like a Berniecrat, or a member of the so-called Squad in the House. She was a registered Democrat, because she thought that party was the best way to advance her left-wing, social democratic brand of politics. And according to…

And as Jim Acosta and Don Lemon both said, what KJP is doing here, is a very Trumpy thing to do. You work for the man as long as you can, you compile a lot of information about him and other people who worked for the President, then you leave The White House and spill the beans (so to speak) about what you saw when you were there. Most of the information that you compiled probably being very negative about who you worked with and for. And you make a lot of money as a result. But this is Donald Trump’s Reality TV America now. So why not? Because this is how his game is played.”

From The New Democrat

Fred touched on this yesterday, but the reason we believe she only had the job that she had at The White House, was to appease the left-wing of the Democratic Party, who saw Joe Biden as too mainstream, too establishment, to “moderate” (whatever that means at this point) back in 2019-20. And this was a favor from the President to them, along with all the environmental actions that President Biden signed, to keep the left-wing off his back while he did what he really wanted to do as President. Which is probably why only the left-wing of the Democratic Party stayed behind the President, when everyone else in the country ditched him last summer and wanted him to drop his presidential campaign.

But, when you do political favors for people, those come with real political consequences:

The one big not really gaff, but more like Karine Jeanne Pierre caught being honest and letting people know what her real politics is, on a hot mic, was when Hamas attacked Israel in October of 2023 and the press wanted to know what the President and White House thought about that and instead of just answering that simple question and condemning the Hamas attack on Israel, she pulled a Kelly-Anne Conway and totally ignored the question and instead talked about what Israel has done to Palestine. Almost as if she was justifying the Hamas attack.

Anyone else who showed such horrible, lack of political judgment and communications, whether it’s about Israel and Hamas, or any other key issue in the country, probably gets fired the next day for being so politically stupid. But Karine Jean-Pierre keeps her job because the President had already decided that he was going to run for reelection in 2024 and didn’t want to risk offending the left-wing of his party.

So, look, this is nothing new. Thanks to Donald Trump, politics and government, is just another division of realty TV and celebrity culture in America, where everyone is looking to “go viral” and grift people off of that. And why not, when you worked in The White House for 4 years and were the press secretary for 18 months and have no much insider information that you want to profit off of, in Donald Trump’s America?

Jim Acosta & Don Lemon: Donald Trump, Elon Musk, & The Big Beautiful Bill

“CNN’s Jim Acosta joins Don Lemon to break down all the chaos dominating the headlines—from Trump’s ongoing grift to Elon Musk’s messy political pivot, to the so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ that’s anything but. No spin, no fluff—just two seasoned journalists digging into what matters, what’s broken, and what’s next.”

Source:Don Lemon and Jim Acosta talking about Elon Musk.

From Don Lemon

As I wrote about Elon Musk in March:

“But what I do know about Elon Musk is very clear: he’s not a politician, doesn’t want to be. He’s a businessman… an oligarch. If he thought he could make a billion dollars producing nothing but vegan foods and other products and thought campaigning to outlaw meat, junk food, and soft drinks, so his vegan business would be even more successful, that’s exactly what he would do. Even while still eating cheeseburgers (and I don’t what he actually like to eat) with fries and washing that down with chocolate milkshake. And that would make him very popular with the Hippie-Left in America, (to keep it real) even if they founded out that he still eats meat and likes his junk food and soft drinks…

From The New Democrat

As Derik Schneider wrote about Elon Musk yesterday:

“As Fred said, Elon Musk is not a politician, or even a political activist. At least not a full-time political activist, who tries to advance some partisan movement, or political philosophy. He’s a businessman… an oligarch. The only thing or person that he wants to advance, is Elon Musk. And he’s just the latest person who got into bed with Donald Trump and came out soaking in sweat, because the only person whoever does well with Donald Trump… is Donald Trump. A look at what has happened to Elon Musk and his company Tesla since Musk went to work for the President in January…

From The New Democrat

And as Kire Schneider wrote about Elon Musk earlier today:

“In case anyone in the world (who is not in their right mind, is currently drunk, high, in a mental institution, throwing a few back right now in a closet) missed The Rambling Don, he just made a reappearance at this joint news conference with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz. The President was given a simple question about Elon Musk and he turned it into how great and fabulous he thinks he is and perfect a job he’s doing, with at best, a lot of misleading comments.

The President was asked a basic question about why Elon Musk is not speaking out against him. He sort of answered that question by saying that Mr. Musk didn’t like the fact that House Republicans stripped the electric vehicle subsidy from the “Big Beautiful Bill. (That we call the Big Ugly Debt Bomb) That might be part of it, since Tesla makes EV’s. But he went to The White House with the goal of eliminating $1T from the budget deficit, with his DOGE and they maybe found 5% of that instead. But to make it worst, their budget plan would add over $2T to the deficit. (According to the Republican controlled Congressional Budget Office)

Plus the fact, Elon Musk and his company Tesla are now worth 1/2 a trillion dollars less, than they were just in December of 2024. (According to Investors Business Daily) So if you are Mr. Musk right now, you could be thinking:

“What did I donate 6 months of life for to Donald Trump? To fend off being deported by a President Kamala Harris? Is that worth 1/2 trillion of my own money…

From The New Democrat

I don’t have much to add about the Trump-Musk feud from what The New Democrat has already said about it the last 2 days. But Jim Acosta made a great point here:

“Maybe Elon Musk has hired a consultant, or a public relations firm and they’re telling him that you have to go after Trump right now to save your company and get your profits and stocks back up… That’s a paraphrase, but very close.

Whatever you want to call the Trump-Musk feud… and I don’t pretend to be a mindreader, just like I don’t pretend to be a world champion speller, or chess player… but only because I’m not, but I would bet just about anything that’s all this is about. Elon Musk is loyal to one thing and 1 person… Elon Musk. And his reputation and company have taken a beating so bad, that if this were a boxing match, he wouldn’t have lasted the 1st round. He thinks attacking Donald Trump and perhaps MAGA as a whole right now, is what he needs to do to bring his company and reputation back and that’s exactly what he’s doing.

And as far as Karine-Jean Pierre: before the Biden White House, she was part of the left-wing group MoveOn. She’s not a Democrat in ideology anyway. More like a Berniecrat, or a member of the so-called Squad in the House. She was a registered Democrat, because she thought that party was the best way to advance her left-wing, social democratic brand of politics. And according to ABC News:

“Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has left the Democratic Party and is now an independent, according to a press release announcing her new book, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines.”

The release from Legacy Lit, an imprint of the Hachette Book Group, said Jean-Pierre has chosen to “look beyond party lines” and is embracing “life as an independent,” a decision it indicated she did not come to lightly.

Jean-Pierre, who served in the Biden administration, is somewhat vague about why she no longer identifies as a Democrat, writing that she feels the current political moment necessitates “freeing ourselves of boxes.”

“Until January 20, I was responsible for speaking on behalf of the President of the United States,” Jean-Pierre said in a statement on Wednesday. “At noon on that day, I became a private citizen who, like all Americans and many of our allies around the world, had to contend with what was to come next for our country.”

From ABC News

You work for the man as long as you can, you compile a lot of information about him and other people who worked for the President, then you leave The White House and spill the beans (so to speak) about what you saw when you were there. C-SPAN: DONALD TRUMP RESPONDS TO ELON MUSK ATTACK ON HIS TAX AND SPENDING CUTS BILL

“President Trump on Elon Musk: “I’ve always liked Elon. I was very surprised…He hasn’t said anything about me that’s bad. I’d rather have him criticize me than the bill because the bill is incredible…I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot.”

A look at what has happened to Elon Musk and his company Tesla since Musk went to work for the President in January:..

From The New Democrat

In case anyone in the world (who is not in their right mind, is currently drunk, high, in a mental institution, throwing a few back right now in a closet) missed The Rambling Don, he just made a reappearance at this joint news conference with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz. The President was given a simple question about Elon Musk and he turned it into how great and fabulous he thinks he is and perfect a job he’s doing, with at best, a lot of misleading comments.

The President was asked a basic question about why Elon Musk is now speaking out against him. He sort of answered that question by saying that Mr. Musk didn’t like the fact that House Republicans stripped the electric vehicle subsidy from the “Big Beautiful Bill. “What did I donate 6 months of life for to Donald Trump? To fend off being deported by a President Kamala Harris? Is that worth 1/2 trillion of my own money?”

Conservative and ex-Republican political strategist Rick Wilson back in 2018, wrote the book: “Everything that Donald Trump Touches Dies”:

“In the #1 New York Times bestselling Everything Trump Touches Dies, political campaign strategist and commentator Rick Wilson delivers “a searingly honest, bitingly funny, comprehensive answer to the question we find ourselves asking most mornings: ‘What the hell is going on?’ (Chicago Tribune). The Guardian hails Everything Trump Touches Dies, saying it gives, “more unvarnished truths about Donald Trump than anyone else in the American political establishment has offered. Wilson never holds back.” Rick mercilessly exposes the damage Trump has done to the country, to the Republican Party, and to the conservative movement that has abandoned its principles for the worst President in American history.

Wilson unblinkingly dismantles Trump’s deceptions and the illusions to which his supporters cling, shedding light on the guilty parties who empower and enable Trump in Washington and in the media. He calls out the race-war dead-enders who hitched a ride with Trump, the alt-right basement dwellers who worship him, and the social conservatives who looked the other way. Publishers Weekly calls it, “a scathing, profane, unflinching, and laugh-out-loud funny rebuke of Donald Trump and his presidency.”

No left-winger, Wilson is a lifelong conservative who delivers his withering critique of Trump from the right. A leader of the Never Trump movement, he warned from the start that Trump would destroy the lives and reputations of everyone in his orbit, and Everything Trump Touches Dies is a deft chronicle the tragicomic political story of our time. From the early campaign days through the shock of election night, to the inconceivable train-wreck of Trump’s first year. Rick Wilson provides not only an insightful analysis of the Trump administration, but also an optimistic path forward for the GOP, the conservative movement, and the country.

“Hilarious, smartly written, and usually spot-on” (Kirkus Reviews), Everything Trump Touches Dies is perfect for those on either side of the aisle who need a dose of unvarnished reality, a good laugh, a strong cocktail, and a return to sanity in American politics.”

From Amazon

OK, Elon Musk is still alive and fairly well, (for Elon Musk) but that’s not the point of Rick Wilson’s book. The point here is that anyone who goes into business with Donald Trump… at least if they had a successful career and good reputation, pre-Donald Trump, gets screwed on the backend by Donald Trump and gets stuck with a bag of monopoly money and worthless merchandise. (Whatever metaphor you want to use) And that’s what’s happened to Mr. Musk and that’s why he’s reacting to the President the way he is. It has very little with anything that The Rambling Don had to say at this joint press meeting with Chancellor Merz.

Peter Wehner: The Unconstitutional Conservatives

“Not too long ago, many Republicans proudly referred to themselves as “constitutional conservatives.” They believed in the rule of law; in limiting the power of government, especially the federal government; in protecting individual liberty; and in checks and balances and the separation of powers. They opposed central planning and warned about emotions stirred up by the mob and the moment, believing, as the Founders did, that the role of government was to mediate rather than mirror popular passions. They recognized the importance of self-restraint and the need to cultivate public and private virtues. And they had reverence for the Constitution, less as a philosophical document than a procedural one, which articulated the rules of the road for American democracy…

Source:The Atlantic with a look at the modern “Republican Party”.

If you have a paid subscription to The Atlantic Magazine, you can read the rest of Peter Wehner’s column at The Atlantic. (Of all places)

As I wrote about the modern “Republican Party” last week:

“So as Yaron Brook said so himself: “The Republican Party is about nothing. There’s no core there, there no principles there… That’s a paraphrase, but pretty close.

If you want me to give the most justifiable defense for why I call the modern “Republican Party” the party of nothing, I’ll give it to you anyway:

“We’re all about Donald Trump now, because it’s the only way we can stay in power, at all. We abandon Trump, we lose our political careers and the Democratic Left would take over and do even more damage to America”.

I think that would be the most justifiable defense for why old school Republicans, people who pre-Donald Trump, we’re real-life Conservative Republicans, could give for why they back Donald Trump… if not 100% of the time, certainly in the high 90s… they don’t want to lose their jobs and careers and be forced to work for a living outside of the “Republican Party”.

And perhaps they’re thinking: “We just weather the storm here with Trump… he’ll be gone, eventually and we can just come back in and start sounding and acting like Republicans again”.

So back in the 1990s, when I was in my late teens and early 20s… I was a huge Seinfeld show fan. I mean I would catch the new episode every week and watch as many reruns as I could. I don’t think the show and those characters have aged very well, but I was into that show 25-30 years ago. And the reason why I call the modern “Republican Party” the “Seinfeld Party”, is because they’re both about 1 thing: they’re about nothing…

From The New Democrat

So I agree with everything that Peter Wehner said… except for 1 thing: they’re not “Conservatives”. Certainly not in the political and constitutional sense. Perhaps in the self-interest sense: “I want to conserve myself at all costs, even if that means literally kissing Donald John Trump’s (The Manhattan Don) ass in public, even on national TV everyday and night.”

If that is what Mr. Wehner means, when he’s talking about “Conservatives”, (which I seriously doubt) then he has a point. But that’s not what he’s talking about.

Peter Wehner gave an excellent definition of what it means to be a “Conservative”:

Pre-Donald Trump, perhaps even pre-Tea Party, the Wehner definition of “Conservative”, was the Republican Party. They’ve always had this populist-fundamentalist base (at least since the 1960s Cultural Revolution) but generally that’s why people became Republicans.

Conservatives saw the Republican Party as the party to defend the Constitution, our rule of law, individual rights, limit government and spending. Not to see who can be the most loyal to Donald John Trump in order to conserve their own careers and make as much money off of him. Knowing in private, how bad of a man and how corrupt he is, the threat to this country and our form of government, if his power goes uncheck.

But when your own career, your own economic outlook is the only thing that you care about, and you are a “Republican”, it doesn’t matter what you need to do to conserve yourself, because that’s exactly what you are going to do.

CBS News: Elon Musk Calls On Congress To “Kill” Donald Trump Budget Bill

“As the Senate forges ahead on President Trump’s budget plan, Elon Musk is ramping up his criticism of the legislation, calling on lawmakers to “kill the bill.” CBS News White House reporter Aaron Navarro has more.”

He’s a businessman… an oligarch. The only thing or person that he wants to advance, is Elon Musk. And he’s just the latest person who got into bed with Donald Trump and came out soaking in sweat, because the only person whoever does well with Donald Trump… is Donald Trump. A look at what has happened to Elon Musk and his company Tesla since Musk went to work for the President in January:

“Several sources suggest that Tesla’s stock value experienced a decline during the period Elon Musk was involved with the White House and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), starting in early 2025.

Here’s a summary of the reported losses and impacts on Tesla:

Significant Stock Value Loss: Tesla’s stock value has lost $565 billion since “Inauguration Day,” based on an Investor’s Business Daily analysis.

Musk’s Personal Wealth: During this time, Musk’s net worth plummeted a reported $122 billion, nearly double the amount he reportedly helped save the government.

Profit Crash: In the first three months of 2025, Tesla’s profits crashed 71% to $409 million, compared to $1.39 billion in the same quarter of the previous year.

Brand Damage: One analyst suggested that Musk’s role in the Trump administration and DOGE created “brand damage and a black cloud over the story” of Tesla.

Sales Decline: Tesla sales were down 13% over the previous year, with the company’s worst quarter since 2022.

Possible Stock Overhang: One analyst believed that Tesla’s stock had a 20% “overhang” tied to Musk’s presence in the White House, suggesting his departure might alleviate it.

It’s important to note that Musk’s involvement with the White House and his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency were temporary. He was designated as a “special government employee” with a 130-day time limit. His departure was announced near the end of May 2025

Source: Investors Business Daily

Pre-Donald Trump, even the left in America liked Elon Musk. They saw him as a rockstar celebrity, who made electric vehicles, perhaps even as some hipster guru or something. But that’s gone now, thanks to Donald Trump and DOGE. And maybe he doesn’t like the “Big Beautiful Bill”, (that The New Democrat calls the Big Ugly Debt Bomb) but when Elon Musk loses money on a deal and his “brand”suffers as a result, he tends to take it out on the people he was doing business with. I think that’s all we’re seeing here. Doing business with MAGA has really hurt Mr. Musk and now he’s fighting back.

Joe Walsh: From The TEA Party To The Democratic Party

” Three words I never thought I’d ever utter: I’m a Democrat. This former Republican Congressman, former Republican candidate for President, this former TEA Party champion is formally joining the Democratic Party. The stakes are simply too high to NOT become a Democrat. Let me explain why.

Let’s start with the obvious—a tyrant sits in the White House. The very thing our Founders feared most is here. Throw in the fact that one of our two major political parties is a real and direct threat to democracy and the rule of law. These are unprecedented, dangerous times in America. I know it. You know it. There are even Republicans who know it.

Anyone who cares about the Constitution cannot sit by and watch as fundamental American values—the rule of law, democracy, pluralism—are attacked. Daily. To defeat my former party and defend democracy, we must do something different. We must assemble a broad coalition of moderates, progressives, and, yes, even conservatives.

We’ve never been here before. Of course we’ve always fought about and debated policy—how best to pay for healthcare, whether taxes should be raised or cut, and how best to deal with immigration. But we’ve never before fought about actually remaining a democracy or abiding by the Constitution and the rule of law. Now we are.

We didn’t choose this fight, but it’s the fight in front of us. Nothing is more important than this. Unprecedented? Sure, but that means we must act in unprecedented ways. It means that those of us who would defend democracy and the rule of law must put aside, for as long as it takes, our particular policy differences and formally lock arms for this higher cause. This is the fight of our times.

Without freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, America ceases to be. And currently, only the Democratic Party is on the side of all three of these core American values. There isn’t a third party coming to the rescue any time soon. Right now, the Democratic Party is democracy’s lone defender and best hope.

Secondly, I’ve changed. Oh, I’m still the same passionate TEA partier who went to Congress in 2010 to fight against our out-of-control debt and fight for a more efficient government. I’m still a border hawk, an unabashed gun rights advocate, and an unyielding defender of free speech. But I’m not the same guy as I was 15 years ago, or even eight years ago.

I’ve opened my eyes and listened to people who don’t think like me. And by doing so, I gained a greater understanding of and appreciation for LGBTQ issues, structural racism, the need for empathetic immigration reform, the dangers of climate change, and the role government must play to help care for the neediest and most vulnerable among us.

Most importantly, I’ve changed how I behave as a public figure. I went to Congress on a mission to get our debt under control and to shake up the political establishment. I was passionate about my cause—so passionate that I said and did things I regret, so passionate that I became, way more than I’m proud of, a divisive political asshole. That’s no longer who I am.

After Trump’s first election, I woke up. Seven years ago, I came out publicly against Trump. Five years ago, I left the Republican Party. I’m still a conservative, but I’m not a conservative jerk. For the past seven years, I’ve been on a mission to help heal the divide in this country—the divide I helped to create.

Decency, tolerance, understanding, empathy…I now get how vital these all are to our politics, and there’s only one political party these days that values and practices these traits—the Democratic Party. Donald Trump is the worst of us, and, sadly, the rest of the Republican Party emulates his cruelty, dishonesty, and authoritarianism. We’re better than what we’ve seen every day these past four months. America is better than this. As a former Republican, I know that cruelty sells. Well, it’s time for decency to sell.

Finally, I’m joining the Democratic Party because we are in a FIGHT for the soul of America. For democracy and the rule of law to persevere, Democrats must succeed. I want to help. I want to help Democrats win. And to win, Democrats must fight. I mean really fight. I’ll say it one more time: Democrats must FIGHT.

Take it from a former Republican fighter. Republicans fight to the death to win politically, and they’ve always believed Democrats won’t. I’ve been a fighter my whole life, and if there’s ever been a moment when Americans are crying out for a Democratic Party with some fight, it’s now.

Campaigning last year to defeat Trump, I would hear the same critique from working-class and middle-class voters every single day in every battleground state I was in: “Yes, Joe, I know Trump is an asshole, but Democrats are elites who look down on me and don’t understand my life.” To save our country, Democrats must connect with these “common sense, tolerant, get shit done” voters in the middle. That’s where I’ve been these past seven years.

One more finally: I’m becoming a Democrat because I’m pissed off. I’m pissed off at the ignorant, lying madman in the White House who’s using his position to only enrich himself and his fat cat friends, while middle-class folks and small business owners and get screwed by his chaos. I’m pissed off at all of his GOP enablers, my former colleagues, who’ve abandoned what’s right to remain in power. I’m pissed off that he and his enablers have lied repeatedly to his voters year after year, and these good folks who’ve been lied to are gonna feel real pain—and Trump and his GOP enablers don’t give a damn. I’m pissed because the opposition party, the Democratic Party, should be every bit as righteously pissed off as me. And I’m pissed off because I love this country, and this country is so much better than what we’ve seen the past almost five months.

Yes, according to today’s political labels, I’m a “conservative.” I used to be a conservative Republican. The Republican Party is no longer conservative, it’s authoritarian. I’m still a conservative, so now I’m a conservative Democrat. And look, here’s the thing. We’re gonna need a HUGE tent to defeat this Republican Party. We’re gonna need a Democratic tent big enough to hold both a conservative like Joe Walsh and a progressive like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. I want to help build that big tent because I want to win, and…Trump’s Republican Party must lose.

From the TEA Party to the Democratic Party, all in the past 15 years. What a wild, crazy, unprecedented political journey it’s been. My constant thread on this journey, my lodestar, has always been my reverence for freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. Along the way, I’ve rediscovered my reverence for decency and tolerance, for pluralism. Only one of America’s two major political parties today is squarely on the side of decency, tolerance, pluralism, freedom, democracy, and the rule of law—the Democratic Party. So I join that party. I proudly and humbly join the Democratic Party.

Now let’s fight! Let’s fight like we’ve never fought before.

Be brave.”

From Joe Walsh

At risk of being the contrarian here: Joe Walsh, even when he was in the U.S. House of Representatives, wasn’t the so-called “Tea Party gangbanger” that he literally labeled himself as. From reading up on his career in Congress, it was really fiscal and economic policy that drove his politics. He was interested in balancing the Federal budget, reducing the national debt, opposition to government health care and assistance for people to buy their own health insurance.

Here is the real Joe Walsh as a Tea Party member of Congress:

“Outspoken and Conservative:

Walsh was a vocal critic of government spending, taxes, and what he perceived as excessive government intervention. He often expressed these views in a passionate and sometimes confrontational manner.

Advocate for Budget Cuts:

Walsh was a strong advocate for reducing government debt through budget cuts. He believed that these cuts were necessary to ensure long-term economic growth and fiscal stability.
Support for Border Security:

He was also a proponent of strengthening border security, often expressing concerns about illegal immigration and advocating for increased enforcement measures.

Anti-Establishment Rhetoric:

Walsh often used anti-establishment rhetoric, criticizing the political establishment and advocating for a more grassroots approach to governance.

Not Always Prudent:

Walsh’s outspokenness and sometimes provocative statements led to controversy and criticism, even from within his own party. He was known for making statements that were considered inaccurate or irresponsible.

Elected as a Tea Party Candidate:

In 2010, Walsh was elected to Congress as a Tea Party-backed candidate, representing the 8th Congressional District in Illinois…

Sure, Joe Walsh was very conservative, 10-15 years ago and still is today. But the modern “Republican Party”, has almost zero interest in any of the issues that former Representative Walsh once pushed, when he was in the House. They’re really just about themselves now and staying in power. Which is why The New Democrat calls the modern “Republican Party” the Seinfeld Party, because they’re about nothing other than themselves and simply holding onto power and keeping Democrats out-of-power, and eliminating whatever checks that still remain on their Dear Leader Donald Trump’s executive power.

So my point here, is the Democratic Party has always had a center-right-wing in it. Hell, it had a far-right-wing in it up until the 1980s or so, before the Dixiecrats became Republicans. And Mr. Walsh might be to the right of the Joe Biden’s, Bill Clinton’s, John F. Kennedy’s, Henry Jackson’s, and other Liberal Democrats, the so-called New Democrats. But there’s a place in this party for him.

It’s the MAGA people that don’t belong in the Democratic Party. Not so much Conservatives, or the real Liberals (that The New Democrats likes to say) because those folks have always had a home here. You don’t believe me? Just ask the Socialists who are always trying to primary establishment Democrats.

Patricia Krenwinkel Recommended For Parole

“A California state parole board found Patricia Krenwinkel’s risk of reoffending to be low.

Former Manson follower Patricia Krenwinkel was recommended for parole on Friday, May 30
She was convicted on seven counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, Steven Earl Parent, Jay Sebring, Leno LaBianca and Rosemary LaBianca
“Pat has fully accepted responsibility for everything she did, everything she contributed to, every twisted philosophy she embraced and endorsed and, most importantly, every life she destroyed by her actions in 1969,” Keith Wattley, Patricia Krenwinkel’s parole attorney, said

The panel’s decision must now be reviewed by the Board of Parole Hearings and then Governor Gavin Newsom, which can take up to 150 days.

Krenwinkel was 21 when she and Manson’s followers went on a two-day murder spree killing pregnant actor Sharon Tate, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, Steven Earl Parent and Jay Sebring in August 1969 — as well as grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, the next night in what prosecutors called Manson’s attempt to start a race war.

Krenwinkel, now 77, testified that she stabbed Folger 28 times, per the New York Times. She later helped kill the LaBiancas the following night and wrote in blood on the walls, “Death to Pigs,” according to the Times.

She was convicted on seven counts of first-degree murder in April 1971 and sentenced to death. She was resentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 1972 after the death penalty in California was deemed unconstitutional.

Krenwinkel, the longest-serving female inmate in the California prison system, first became eligible for parole in 1976. She has had 16 appearances before the state parole board.

In 2022, Newsom overruled the recommendation by the Board of Parole Hearings for her release after citing that Krenwinkel still posed “an unreasonable danger to society if paroled at this time.”

“Ms. Krenwinkel fully accepted Mr. Manson’s racist, apocalyptical ideologies,” Newsom said, per The Associated Press. “Ms. Krenwinkel was not only a victim of Mr. Manson’s abuse. She was also a significant contributor to the violence and tragedy that became the Manson Family’s legacy.”

Jay Sebring’s nephew Anthony DiMaria spoke out at Friday’s hearing.

“Patricia Krenwinkel is not a follower, nor is she a victim,” said DiMaria, according to CBS8. “She is a cold-blooded killer of eight people. The more accurate number is eight, as I include the murder of Tate’s unborn son. Krenwinkel obliterated the rights of all of her victims. Charles Manson did not write Helter Skelter in blood. Patricia Krenwinkel did. She is the author of blood-smeared messages that terrified the world. Parole Patricia Krenwinkel once her victims are paroled from their graves.”

Keith Wattley, Krenwinkel’s parole attorney, said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that the inmate should be released.

“After 56-and-a-half years of incarceration with no rule violations, with substantial change in who she is, and with the last nine psychological evaluators over the past 40 years agreeing that Pat is no longer a risk, it’s time to make the possibility of parole a reality,” he said.

“Pat has fully accepted responsibility for everything she did, everything she contributed to, every twisted philosophy she embraced and endorsed and, most importantly, every life she destroyed by her actions in 1969,” Wattley continued.

“Pat has participated in extensive therapy and group counseling to address her experiences as both a perpetrator and survivor of violence, allowing her to understand how she was able to cause this tragedy and helping others along their own healing journeys. This case also shows what happens when we don’t officially offer any healing-focused alternative to survivors of violent crime. Pat and I wish them peace, if they can ever experience it after the harm she caused.”

In response to the recommendation, Sharon Tate’s sister, Debra, has started a petition to keep Krenwinkel from getting parole.

“Society cannot allow this serial killer who committed such horrible, gruesome, random killings back out,” she wrote. “I am asking for your help by letting the parole board know that you do not want to see her get released by signing this petition.”

It has gained 116,790 signatures as of Monday morning.

From People Magazine

As Fred Schneider wrote about this back in 2023 about Leslie Van Houten’s parole:

“I think sparing the life of Leslie Van Houten was a good thing. She obviously became a good, intelligent, responsible person, these last 53 years. But if you are old enough, strong enough, and mentally capable enough, to murder not one, but 2 people, in the prime of their lives, you are old enough to spend the rest of your life paying for your murders.

My response to what Leslie Van Houten’s lawyer, Nancy Tetreault, who was on CNN last night talking to John Berman, she tried to argue that since Leslie was 19 at the time of her two murders in 1969, that she shouldn’t be held completely responsible for her crimes, because the brain of the 19 year old, isn’t as developed as someone whose in their 20s. Only in Hollywood, California could that argument hold. Well, the rest of Hippieland, California, as well.

But again, if you are old enough, strong enough, mentally competent enough, to murder not one, but two people in the prime of their lives, you are old enough to pay the price for your crimes, for the rest of your life, regardless of how old you were when you committed your murders.”

From The New Democrat

I think Fred covered how The New Democrat feels… pretty much about how anyone who was in the Manson Crime Family, who murdered and got life sentences for their murders, feels about anyone in that crime family, ever getting paroled. We don’t think they should ever even be eligible for parole. And I’m just going to give you a few more reasons why.

To qualify as a serial murderer in the United States, you’ve had to of murdered at least 3 people. What’s a murder? The premeditated, intentional, killing, of an innocent person. Very different from let’s say manslaughter where you kill someone accidentally by being irresponsible… like hitting someone with your car, while driving drunk. Or 2nd degree murder, where you intended to physically hurt someone who wasn’t an immediate threat to your safety, but you didn’t intend to kill them.

Patricia Krenwinkel is guilty of murdering 7 innocent people, intentionally (which is what 1st degree murder is) and perhaps the worst part, she had no idea who her victims were before she murdered all 7 of them. Think about that for a second: you break into a complete stranger’s home and murder 7 people by yourself, because your cult leader said they were bad people, or he simply didn’t like them. That’s the type of person that Pat Krenwinkel was 56 years ago.

And if you want to give me “the LSD made her do it”, or “Charles Manson made her do it”… she joined the Manson Family voluntarily in 1967 or 68, after running away from her middle class, suburban home in California and she took the drugs voluntarily as well. Not like she was kidnapped and stabbed with LSD 20 times a day, every time that she was there. (That was a half joke)

I’m all for second chances when it comes to everyone who’s never intentionally killed an innocent person. And I do believe that sparing the life of Pat Krenwinkel is just based on the person she’s become that last 55 years while in prison. But nothing that she’s accomplished while in prison, even taking responsibility for her 7 murders, makes up intentionally murdering 7 innocent strangers, especially the way she did with all the stab wounds and the innocent blood that she left behind because of her murders.

Inside Edition: Does This Video Prove Elon Musk Was High in Front of Donald Trump?

“Video shows Elon Musk at a dinner party in Mar-a-Lago balancing a fork and two spoons on one finger while his partner Shivon Gillis looks on. It happened in March but has resurfaced on social media after a New York Times article claimed Musk was using drugs while on Donald Trump’s campaign trail. Musk fired back Sunday: “I do not take drugs! The New York Times is lying. I tried prescription ketamine a few years ago. It helps with dark periods, but I haven’t taken it since.”

Source:Inside Edition with a scoop on Elon Musk.

From Inside Edition

As I wrote about Elon Musk back in February:

“Another way to describe CPAC (Crazy People At a Convention) would be to use a pro wrestling analogy. And the 10 pro wrestling fans who see this post, will understand what I’m talking about. Unless they’re MAGAheads and they didn’t take their medication today.

So in the late 1990s, I’m in my early 20s (I’m 1 of the last of Gen-Xers) and my favorite show on TV at that point, was WCW Nitro, which was on TNT every Monday night. So the main WCW (which stands for World Championship Wrestling) storyline was that you had this renegade group of journeymen pro wrestlers, who put their own wrestling crew or organization together, to take over pro wrestling, or at least WCW and replace the leadership with their own people. Now put that in political terms: does this sound familiar?

Hulk Hogan was like the president of this group called NWO (or New World Order) Eric Bischoff was like his executive vice president, who ran the day-to-day operations of WCW and NWO, who reported directly to Hulk Hogan. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall (also known as The Outsiders) were like the chief enforcers of this group.

So you look at the beginning of this video about CPAC, (Crazy People At A Convention) you have Elon Musk, who is sort of like Eric Bischoff character in the NWO and you have Argentine President Javier Milei (of all people. I guess they couldn’t find an American President to do this for them) coming out on stage with a chainsaw, sort of pretending to be Donald J. Trump, pretending to take a chainsaw to American democracy. I mean bureaucracy…

From The New Democrat

So, after seeing this video of Elon Musk at the President’s resort, are you surprised about what I said about this… man, 4 months ago? Whether he was high at Mara-E-Lago, or not (I think he obviously was) but I don’t think that’s the real issue here.

I mean, you are the company you keep. Doesn’t matter what your official title is. When you hang out with people who are more qualified to be professional “reality TV stars” and hardcore headbangers, than they are to do have anything to do with any government, anywhere in the developed world, you probably going to be doing business and be hanging out with drug addicts, at least from time to time. That’s just how they roll (so to speak) and how they get through their days and avoid having to go to sleep.

But whether Musk was high that night or not and high with the President of the United States, or not, I don’t think is the major issue here. I was done being offended by anything that Donald Trump and anyone from his MAGA crew have done and said, since he ran for President 10 years ago.

I think the real issue is and the real question for voters is: do you want the President of the United States to be associating with unserious people and people who probably couldn’t even spell public service (even on their off days when they’re sober) let alone actually knows what public service is, or not? Or you simply don’t care and you view government as nothing more than a real-life, political reality TV show and rock show, “where shit happens” all the time and you “just deal with it”.

Ben Meiselas: FURIOUS World Leaders SHRED Donald Trump in NEW ORDER

“MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas reports on world leaders calling Trump’s bluff and Trump folding as a weak and pathetic person who doesn’t have the courage to lead.”

Source:Meidas Touch with a look at a man who defends his country & a man who only defends himself. It’s obvious who is who.

From the Meidas Touch

Just on a personal note first: Ben Meiselas sounds like he needs a break. He sounds like 1 of those U.S. Senators who just completed a 24 hour filibuster and instead of going home and getting some rest, he goes straight from the Senate chamber to his latest committee hearing and immediately begins speaking there. His voice sounds pretty weak in this video.

Now on to a serious issue. Ben Meiselas might agree me with on this. Ukraine’s attacks directly on Russia’s Air Force and knocking out 1 of their major fleets, reminds me of when the U.S. Navy Seals assassinated Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan back in May of 2011. The White House didn’t inform the Pakistani Government of what they were doing in that country either, because the Obama Administration was worried that Pakistani intelligence would leak this American operation to Osama and company.

Well, President Volodomyr Zelensky (Ukraine) didn’t give President Trump a heads up either, because guess what: Vladimir Putin would’ve found out about that ahead of time:

Perhaps his Russian contact DNI Tulsi Gabbard would’ve give him that information.

Maybe Secretary of Defense Pete (don’t call me DUI) Hegseth would’ve leaked that information to The Kremlin… perhaps unintentionally. Maybe while he was drunk at 1 of his drinking parties and he leaked that information on Signal, perhaps even Twitter. You know what they say about Tweeting while drunk? You don’t want to be held accountable for what you Tweet, after you had a few because you don’t know what you are saying.

And where Meiselas and I definitely agree here… this does make President Trump look pretty weak. It was the ultimate: “Screw you. I don’t need you. I have my own, damn, country, to defend, with or without you”. This is what happens to you when you try to govern with just 42% of the country behind you and instead of trying to lead the free, developed world, you try to get in bed (perhaps just rhetorically) with the authoritarian world, because that personally benefits you financially.

Adam Carolla: Is Jasmine Crockett Playing a Character?

“Adam and Dr. Drew break down Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s blatant code-switching and explore why so many politicians shift their tone depending on the audience.”

Source:Adam Carolla with a look at U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (The Squad, Texas)

From Adam Carolla

I think I agree with Adam Carolla’s basic point here. (Which makes me want to consult a real shrink, instead of Drew Pinsky) Whether it’s Jasmine Crockett or someone else, American politicians have a habit of sounding different, depending on who they are speaking too.

A political example of this would be when a politician or candidate is speaking to a business association and talking about how great private enterprise is and how it creates wealth, etc, and perhaps on the same day when that politician visits a much smaller, less educated, less wealthy town, they’re talking about “greedy corporations” who are “destroying the workingman in America”.

If you look at MAGA, a lot of those organizers, their leaders, are some of the most educated and wealthy people in the world, including their Dear Leader.

Whether Donald Trump’s net worth is in the hundreds of millions of dollars, or he’s a real life billionaire, (we’ll never know what his real net worth is until he releases his financial records) he’s got enough money to buy his own country (perhaps start his own country) and be the dictator over there, instead of trying to become a dictator in America. But he talks and acts like he’s a regular guy, and champion of “real Americans”.

As much as MAGA trashes elite universities, a lot of them graduated there and wouldn’t be where they are today (mostly likely) without their Ive League degrees:

Senator Ted Cruz, has a degree from both Princeton and Harvard.

Senator Josh Hawley, Stanford and Yale.

Vice President J.D. Vance, Ohio State, which is 1 of the best state colleges in the country and then later Yale.

And that’s just for starters. So much for MAGA being a “populist movement” when so many of their members are elitists.

And if you want to get back to Representative Jasmine Crockett and the so-called Squad in the House… when she’s doing mainstream media interviews and talking to actual journalists, instead of just left-wing activists, she comes off as a mainstream politician, at least in the sense as far as how she presents herself. But when she’s back home, (and the Carolla video makes that clear) it’s like she’s “back in the hood” (or some place) just “speaking to her peeps”.

And as far as politicians playing characters and we can focus on the Democratic Left here,,, as I wrote about this 3 weeks ago:

“And I agree with the point that both Matt Lewis and Rik Schneider we’re making. I think the left-wing of the Democratic Party, looks like a real-life, Hollywood political film, or “or reality TV show”, where everyone else is trying to “out viral” the other person and use that to jumpstart whatever career that they want to have for themselves.

But could you imagine if Socialists, even in the Democratic Party ever came to power in America? I mean their whole lifestyle, their culture, their way of life, is dependent and completely subsidized by the American capitalist and liberal democratic system. And most of them know that. Most of these folks are educated. Most of these folks make good livings for themselves, even millionaires…

From The New Democrat

My point 3 weeks ago and I think Carolla got into this as well, a lot of what politicians do and say when they’re just speaking to their people, (meaning their political faction) is just a show. They’re there trying to make it clear that they’re “still down for the cause”, (as the left likes to say) that they’re still as radical as the audience that they’re speaking too. Even if they don’t believe a damn word of what they told those folks and perhaps are even embarrassed by how they looked at that event.

And I think this is just what happens when government can seem so boring to people, even for people who are in government and in elected office, that they feel the way not to be seen as boring, is to put on a show, an act, for their audience. And they create their own political reality TV show for themselves. But the Democrats didn’t start this. I mean Donald Trump invented political reality TV when he ran for President the first time 10 years ago. And now the Democratic Left is simply trying to catch up to MAGA on this.
